New York-based music and entertainment investment firm Influence Media Partners has acquired a portfolio of copyrights from the catalog of Grammy-nominated singer / songwriter Julia Michaels.
This acquisition follows last month’s news of the company’s purchase agreement from Grammy-nominated multi-platinum songwriter Ali Tamposi.
Influence Media Partners launched a fund in March to invest in so-called “award-winning catalogs of some of the most influential musicians in music”.
The fund, which was co-founded with the Municipal Employment Retirement System (“MERS of Michigan”), has an initial value of up to $ 100 million in investable capital.
The deal with Michaels includes a portfolio of selected copyrights from their catalog, both as a solo artist and as a songwriter for other musicians.
This includes Michaels’ publishing portion of her own songs like Issues, I Miss You (with Clean Bandit), Carry Me (with Kygo) and Friends (with Justin Bieber & BloodPop).
The deal also includes songs by Selena Gomez (Bad Liar, Hands To Myself), Justin Bieber (Sorry), Ed Sheeran (Dive), Janelle Monae (Make Me Feel), Bryce Vine (Drew Barrymore), Nick Jonas (Close, with Tove Lo), Hailee Steinfeld (love myself), P! nk (Barbies), Linkin Park (Heavy, with Kiiara), Gwen Stefani (used to love you), Britney Spears (want to come over?), Fifth Harmony (all in my head [Flex] with Fetty Wap), Maroon 5 (Help Me Out) and more.
Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
As a songwriter, Michaels has co-wrote 25 songs that are listed on the Billboard Hot 100, 14 of which made the top 40.
In February 2021 Michaels signed a new publishing contract with the Universal Music Publishing Group for future compositions.
She received her second career nomination for Song of the Year at the 63rd GRAMMY Awards in March and released her full-length debut album, Not In Chronological Order, on April 30th.
“Like Carole King, Sia and Bruno Mars before her, Julia Michaels belongs to the pantheon of great songwriters.”
Lylette Pizarro, INFLUENCE MEDIA
Lylette Pizarro, founder and co-managing partner of Influence Media, said: “Like Carole King, Sia and Bruno Mars before her, Julia Michaels belongs to the pantheon of great songwriters who can write classics for themselves and for other artists.
“We have wanted to be in business with Julia since our founding in 2018 and are thrilled that her team took a chance on us in a very competitive business process.”
“I’m excited and proud that my music will touch new people for years to come and get through their expertise.”
Michaels said, “I am excited to be working with Lylette, Lynn and the Influence Media team to put some of my favorite songs from the first chapter of my career in the trusted hands of two evil female executives.
I am excited and proud that my music will touch new people over the years to get through their expertise. “
“Julia is one of the most influential artists of the last decade.”
Lynn Hazan, Influence Media
Lynn Hazan, Co-Managing Partner of Influence Media, said, “Even in 2021, it’s extremely rare in the music business to have an all-female team on both sides of the table on a deal of this magnitude.
“Working with Julia, her manager Beka Tischker, her lawyer Renee Karalian and our consultant Lisa Alter to bring this partnership to life was a pleasure every step of the way.
“Julia is one of the most influential artists of the last decade and we couldn’t be more honest to have been entrusted with her fantastic catalog.”Music business worldwide
