For homeowners with pets, smart tech can be a great way to keep track of those furry friends and provide them with what they need to stay happy and healthy. Here are some devices that pet owners find particularly useful.
Pets are important members of our family, and in this episode of making home technology decisions, we’re going to be looking at some smart technology products made just for your pets.
First and foremost is a dog collar with GPS tracking from Be. It’s perfect for any active dog who spends a lot of time outdoors. The Series 2 has improved battery life and is now available in smaller sizes that are suitable for smaller dogs. The collar can be used to track your dog’s activities on the app, create a virtual geo-fence to receive notifications when they escape and to locate them.
If you have an enclosed yard and sliding glass door, the new might interest you Wayzn smart pet door. It’s cheaper than most dog door solutions and safer. When dogs approach the door, a motion sensor opens the door, giving your pets more freedom to go to the bathroom at any time – even if you are not available to let them out at that moment.
It can also be controlled via the app, by voice or with a compatible camera. The company will also be releasing a pet tag later this summer. When not in use, the Wayzn lifts out of the way or can be lowered for added security.
Clever is a popular device for serving delicacies with an integrated camera and integrated two-way conversation. It was even featured in an episode of Conan O’Brien in which he “rewarded” his assistant who worked remotely during the pandemic.
All jokes aside, this is a fun device, but it may not be for everyone. We recommend the Wyze Cam as an affordable way to keep tabs on your pets when you are away from home.
PetSafe is the largest manufacturer of electronic pet training products in the United States, offering a wide variety of products including wireless fencing, bark control, training collars, automated litter boxes, and bird feeders.
We were able to test the second Generation of automatic dog / cat feeder with Wi-Fi connectivity and an app. It is currently the best-selling automatic feeder on Amazon. With it, you can plan, adjust and monitor your pet’s meals from your phone.
With the Amazon integration, you can ask Alexa to give your pet a snack. The feeder holds 24 cups of food, has sensors that notify you when it is running low or empty, and even automatically rearranges food via Amazon if these are activated.
We also tested a Pet water fountain by Eufy. It has a five-stage filtration system and a powerful pump that circulates the 1.5 liters of water in your pet’s bowl to keep them clean.
Our cat is unusual in that it usually drinks from a large coffee mug that we set high for him as opposed to a regular bowl of water on the floor, but he has moved straight to his new fancy bowl and seems to like it. He is still working on his English skills so we will have to wait for his full review.
That’s it for Pet Tech. Stay tuned as we revisit some of our favorite smart thermostats, share our favorite smart home devices with Google Home, and do more comparisons of the latest video doorbells, security cameras, systems and locks.
