It turns out that the best anti aging creams are available at the drug store – here’s what to buy

Don’t get us wrong – we love to do the rounds of Sephora when trying to find a new skin care product, but sometimes a drugstore choice just feels right. And since we firmly believe that high quality items don’t have to come with a high price, we are looking for the best drugstore antiaging creams on the market. Thanks to the arrival of French pharmacy brands, new technologies and a greater awareness of healthy ingredients, it is very possible to get powerful and effective moisturizers at the local drug store.

Self-care is essential during this time, and even the smallest daily skin care rituals are the perfect moment to make room for ourselves. To be honest, we’re not exactly big fans of the term “antiaging” – it’s one of those slightly problematic idioms that doesn’t really articulate our real needs. After all, getting older is a gift! But that doesn’t mean that we can’t treat ourselves to a little bit of care to keep our skin health in tip-top shape.

For this reason we have Dr. Reached out to Nancy Samolitis, MD, FAAD, Co-Founder and Medical Director of FACILE Dermatology + Boutique, to tell us about the best anti aging creams and serums for drugstores. She believes skin care should be easy and accessible, so we know that Dr. Samolitis will have the best recommendations. They come at a variety of prices and are as easy to find as a trip to your local CVS.

Here’s what Dr. Samolitis Among 13 Best Anti Aging Creams For Drugstores We Could Find:

2 of 14

The product: Vichy LiftActiv Vitamin C Lightening skin corrector with hyaluronic acid

Why I recommend it: This serum has a high effectiveness of pure vitamin C (15%) in combination with hyaluronic acid to optimize fluid intake. Vitamin C in this potency protects the skin from oxidative stress that can arise from UV light and environmental toxins. I recommend taking vitamin C serum in the morning just before applying sunscreen. – Dr. Samolitis

The product: Cerave Resurfacing Retinol Serum

Why I recommend it: This product contains my favorite combination of antiaging ingredients – retinol and niacinamide. Since retinol can cause dryness and irritation, it is more tolerable for daily use when it is combined with the anti-inflammatory B vitamin niacinamide and ceramides (the active ingredient to restore the hero barrier in all Cerave products). Additionally, this product has encapsulated the retinol to slow its release and has a patented moisturizing delivery system to further reduce the risk of irritation. Lastly, it also contains licorice root extract to help lighten brown spots from acne or sun damage. I recommend using products that contain retinol at night to help restore cells. – Dr. Samolitis

The product: Olay Regenerist Retinol 24 Night Face Moisturizer

Why I recommend it: Pamper your skin with this extremely moisturizing nighttime facial moisturizer. It contains Olay’s powerful vitamin B3 and retinol complex, which helps penetrate deeply into the surface of the skin and regenerate overnight. You will see visible improvements in fine lines, wrinkles, dark spots, pores, and more.

The product: Versed Doctor’s Visit Instant Resurfacing Mask

Why I recommend it: This mask contains a combination of AHAs, glycolic and lactic acids and BHA, salicylic acid. AHAs dissolve dead skin cells on the surface to increase radiance, and BHAs absorb deeper into the pores, reducing inflammation and redness. This weekly mask also contains vitamin C and gentle exfoliating enzymes. Regular exfoliation not only improves the appearance of the skin with an instant glow, but it also triggers increased collagen production over time, making the skin stronger and healthier. – Dr. Samolitis

The product: First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream Intensive hydration

Why I recommend it: If you have dry, sensitive skin, this is the cream for you. It’s made from colloidal oatmeal that instantly moisturizes dry skin. It also fights fine lines, wrinkles, and redness. This nourishing cream is suitable for all skin types, not just those looking for antiaging benefits.

The product: DerMend Fragile Skin Moisturizing Formula Cream

Why I recommend it: This product, which is marketed for mature skin, contains all effective ingredients against skin aging and skin barrier in one. This cream is intended to be used on the easily sun damaged skin of the body including the neck, chest, arms and hands. It contains retinol, glycolic acid, niacinamide, hyaluronic acid and ceramides. Even if you don’t fall into the “mature” or “fragile” skin category, it is an excellent daily product for protecting the skin on the body that is prone to thinning and easy bruising from sun damage. – Dr. Samolitis

The product: Boot No. 7 Day Cream SPF 30 lift and illuminate

Why I recommend it: Formulated with No7’s Triple Action Serum, this cream moisturizes, brightens, firms and evens skin tone. As if that wasn’t good enough, it has SPF 30 to help protect your sensitive skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays.

The product: Summer Ready Advanced Supplement

Why I recommend it: While this is clearly not a cream, this is an incredible supplement that offers skin protection from the inside and should be used in combination with topical sunscreen and / or sun protective clothing. The ingredient Polypodium Leucotomos is a plant-based powerful antioxidant that promotes your skin’s natural defense against the sun. It also contains nicotinamide (similar to niacinamide mentioned in antiaging topical skin care products), which has been shown in clinical studies to reduce the number of skin cells from cancer and the risk of certain types of common skin cancers. Finally, it contains a high dose of vitamin D for maximum skin and whole body health. I recommend two tablets a day all year round. – Dr. Samolitis

10 of 14

The product: Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair

Why I recommend it: That might sound a little random, but the pump bottle is actually a big selling point as it keeps the cream free of bacteria. It contains retinol and hyaluronic acid, which visibly reduces the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines and dark spots. The combination of Retinol SA and Glucose Complex acts on wrinkles and skin tone, making the skin look younger and healthier in just one week. No wonder it’s a cult favorite!

The product: La Roche-Posay Anthelios 50 tinted mineral sunscreen

Why I recommend it: The list of antiaging creams would not be complete without sunscreen! Daily exposure to UV rays is the number one cause of the changes we see in aging skin. If you don’t believe me, compare the skin on your face, arms, or chest to the skin on your bum. Keep going i will wait This sunscreen has a high sun protection factor of 50 and is an ultra-light liquid that is perfect for the face and body. It has a matte finish and is good for acne prone skin. Tinted sunscreens also offer additional light protection to prevent discoloration. I recommend applying sunscreen as the last step in your skin care routine in the morning and reapplying it every two hours if you spend time outdoors. – Dr. Samolitis

The product: Eucerin Q10 Anti-Wrinkle Face Cream

Why I recommend it: There’s a reason dermatologists often recommend Eucerin for myriad problems. The formula enriched with Coenzyme Q10 firms and moisturizes for an incredibly soft, smooth skin. This cream helps replenish a naturally occurring enzyme that is vital to healthy and young looking skin. Along with vitamin E and beta-carotene, it is a powerful antioxidant complex that protects against free radical damage.

The product: L’Oreal Revitalift Triple Power Anti-Aging Moisturizer

Why I recommend it: This incredibly powerful (and popular) moisturizer is made with some of our favorite ingredients like pro-retinol, vitamin C, and hyaluronic acid. It reduces wrinkles and tightens and brightens the skin. As if that weren’t good enough, it’s also free from parabens, fragrances, mineral oils, and coloring so you can be sure it’s good for you too.

The product: CeraVe Skin Renewing Night Cream

Why I recommend it: Dermatologists love CeraVe products and for good reason. It is specifically designed to work with your natural circadian rhythm and restore your skin barrier overnight when it is most receptive. The ceramides 1, 3 and 6-11, hyaluronic acid and niacinamide combine and ensure that the skin is refreshed, renewed, moisturized and feels soft.
