How to get Marriott Lifetime Status

Marriott is one of the largest hotel companies in the world with 30 brands and more than 7,000 hotels in over 130 countries and territories. Depending on your travel preferences, maintaining loyalty to a large chain like Marriott can have advantages. Whether you’re on a road trip or a luxury honeymoon, you can enjoy perks like free room upgrades, bonus points, improved WiFi, and late check-out.

The Marriott Bonvoy program offers five levels of elite status, but only three are available to unlock for a lifetime. Below is how you can take advantage of elite status forever.

Marriott Life Status Criteria

Marriott’s elite status levels include silver, gold, platinum, titanium, and ambassador. However, only silver, gold, and platinum status are available for lifetime status. To earn this status, you must earn a minimum number of Qualifying Nights and Years with Elite Status.

Here is a summary of the requirements for each life level:

  • Silver Elite Lifetime Status: 250 nights for life and five years of status.

  • Gold Elite Lifetime Status: 400 lifetime nights and seven years of Gold Elite status or higher.

  • Platinum Elite Lifetime Status: 600 nights for life and 10 years of Platinum Elite status.

Remember, you don’t need to maintain elite status for consecutive years to qualify for lifelong status.

Another important requirement for eligibility is that only the calendar year in which you achieve elite status counts as lifetime status year. For example, if you earned Gold Elite status at the end of 2021 and are able to take advantage of the balance between 2021 and 2022, only 2021 will count towards your status years. You will need to re-qualify for a second year in 2022, which will count towards lifetime status.

The advantages of the status of life

In addition to the lifelong benefits of the respective status level, your Marriott Bonvoy points are another benefit of the lifelong status never expire. Fortunately, Marriott makes it easy to track your progress towards life status online or through the Marriott Bonvoy app.

How to earn Marriott Bonvoy status

Accumulating the required number of nights is an easy part of the equation to unlock lifetime status. You will receive credits for Paid Nights, Award Nights, and nights earned as Elite Night Credits through Marriott credit cards. However, depending on your travel habits, the request may take some time.

The second part of the puzzle deserves the status for several years. You can earn Bonvoy status each year by booking either eligible stays at Marriott Hotels (10 nights for Silver, 25 nights for Gold, or 50 nights for Platinum). Or you can earn the status through a credit card.

Several Marriott co-branded credit cards and other premium credit cards offer free elite status in the program. The status and benefits you get from earning on a credit card are the same as you would get if you earned from qualifying through stays.

Here is a breakdown of the status of each card:

In addition, certain cards provide a path to higher levels of elite status as your card reaches a spending threshold each year. For example with the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless ™ Credit Card Earn Gold Elite status when you spend $ 35,000 on purchases each account year.

The final result

Achieving lifelong elite status with Marriott definitely requires long-term commitment to the chain. To reach the lowest tier, Silver Elite Lifetime Status, you must stay a total of 250 Lifetime Nights and receive five years of status. Once you’ve exceeded the life status criteria, you’ll have access to the level’s lifelong perks – and your points will never expire.

You can meet the annual status requirement by having a credit card that offers Marriott Bonvoy free elite status or by meeting the minimum number of qualifying nights per year.
