Tony Wadsworth CBE named new chairman of the BRIT Trust music charity

Wadsworth, a BRIT trustee for 16 years and a widely recognized figure in the industry, including for his tenure as Chairman and CEO of EMI Music UK and Chairman of the BPI, succeeds John Craig OBE, who announced in November that he will resign the role.

The BRIT Trust receives much of its funding from charitable proceeds from music events such as the BRIT Awards and the annual fundraising dinner Music Music Trusts Award, which it then distributes as grants to charities and organizations that promote education and wellbeing through music.

Since its inception by the music industry in 1989, the Trust has donated approximately £ 27 million. Thousands of young people from diverse backgrounds, many of whom have successful careers, have extensive opportunities to work in the Trust Music and Creative Industries.

The biggest beneficiaries to date include BRIT School – the UK’s completely free performing and creative arts school – which has received nearly £ 15m in funding, and Nordoff Robbins, the UK’s leading independent music therapy charity. that has had around £ 8 million in support.

Other reasons to benefit from the Trust include mental health charities Mind and Music Support, the youth rehabilitation charity Key4Life and ELAM (East London Arts and Music), and the funding of apprenticeships for young people through the BRITs Apprentice Scheme des BPI.
