Mzalazala reports to Vice President for International Development, Heli Del Moral, and is CD Baby’s first employee in Africa. There he will be responsible for the growth of CD Baby in South Africa and other markets in southern Africa including Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Swaziland and Namibia.

Mzalazala, based in Johannesburg, strengthens CD Baby’s 22-strong international team, which operates in markets in Europe, North America, South America, East Asia and South Asia.

He has more than 20 years of experience in the music industry, including at Yourself Management, Xhentsa and Koloni. He works directly with the artists Mahlatse Vokal and Lisa Good and heads the publishing team of the South African label Mathaland / Ghetto Ruff, with whom he has worked with Zola 7, Dj Cleo, Pitch Black AFRO and Morafe.

Mzalazala worked in the music industry as an artist before moving to the business side, working on independent artist projects including the double-platinum album by Zonke Dikana, Ina Ethe and the multi-award-winning gospel album Bayede Baba by Sfiso Ncwane.

He has also worked with Sizwe Zako, Tshepo Tshola, Lawrence Matshiza and many other experiences which he has summarized in a handbook for independent musicians.

“This move is part of our overall vision to provide the best artist and rights management services to independent artists worldwide.”

“African artists have influenced music around the world and we are excited to find the right representative to help them understand how CD Baby can support their careers and creativity,” said Hel Del Moral, vice president, international development .

“This move is part of our overall vision to provide the best artist and rights management services to independent artists worldwide.”

“The main challenges facing independent artists in our region are the lack of information or knowledge, the lack of income from their works, and the long-term agreements they sign. But artists become independent by owning their masters and gaining access to most digital platforms. There are many reasons to be optimistic now. “
