The newly listed “Vampire House” has coffins and a cemetery in the backyard

A decor of coffins, crosses, and a backyard graveyard went viral with a seemingly unremarkable Maryland home along with its agent.

The one-bedroom house, listed at 228 Townsend Avenue in Baltimore, first gained prominence after New York Times tech reporter Taylor Lorenz shared a Zillow list for a very ordinary gray, even cute house on Twitter .

However, flipping through the photos reveals a number of unusual design options: all black cabinets and furniture, black carpets and chandeliers, a master bedroom with crosses and mirrors above the bed, coffin paintings and sculptures, and a basement with nothing but exposed wooden beams and two black leather armchairs. Another inexplicable detail is the numerous posters for the Oakland Raiders on the walls.

“I learned in a fair living seminar after the fair living seminar that you don’t talk about people,” Matt Godbey, the RE / MAX Results representative who represents the property, told Slate. “You want me to tell you how many square meters or how long the driveway is or what it looks like inside, no problem.”

The only pops of color in the listing photos come from two bright red pillows in the bedroom. And to really pound the vampire-themed house, the back of the house has an outside terrace that doubles as a bar and that reads “Cemetery” alongside a display of white crosses, fake graves and a crypt.

Owner Billy Nicholson first told the Baltimore Sun that he inherited the house from his mother in 2014 and used the opportunity to play around with his love of all morbid things.

“It’s basically my twisted fantasy coming to life,” he said, explaining that he’d spent the last seven years trying to find building details like cemetery gates and coffins.

To really hammer the house theme, the back of the house has an outside deck that doubles as a bar and has the words “graveyard” written next to a display of white crosses, fake graves, and a crypt.

Many called it creepy and compared it to a vampire’s hiding place, while others praised Nicholson’s lack of care about what the world thought of his stylistic choices.
