Book these Hyatt hotels before they get expensive

Starting March 25, 2021, the number of points required to book a free night at 10 Hyatt hotels around the world will become increasingly expensive.

Points-smart travelers will secure stays at domestic hotels like the Hyatt House Nashville / Downtown-SoBro, which are likely to be in high demand as closed borders keep many U.S. travelers close to their homes. There are also offers at luxury resorts in remote areas – like the Andaz Scottsdale Resort & Bungalows. It is likely that these properties will continue to appeal to travelers who are still concerned about the crowd.

Both hotels are among the 10 hotels whose booking of points will soon become more expensive. Find out about the upcoming changes and the best Hyatt hotels to book now.

This is how Hyatt point pricing works

The cost of booking a room with World of Hyatt Points are based on an award table. Hotels are assigned award categories from 1 to 8, and each category corresponds to a fixed number of points required to make a booking. Standard rooms in Category 1 hotels start at 5,000 points per night, while the same type of room in Category 8 hotels costs 40,000 points.

Hyatt regularly switches between award categories to better align with cash prices. Aging hotels might drop one award category while a recently renovated hotel might switch one. Hotels in places that have suddenly become more desirable could also move up a category.

Which Hyatt properties are changing?

Hyatt announced that the following 10 properties will enter a price tier starting March 25:

Mar Monte Hotel, Hyatt’s Unbound Collection

Hyatt House Nashville / downtown SoBro

Hyatt Regency Grand Reserve Puerto Rico

Hyatt Regency Dharamshala Resort

Hyatt Regency John Wayne Airport

Hyatt Place Fair Lawn / Paramus

It’s not all bad news, however. A Hyatt hotel moves to a lower award category as the Hyatt Place Houston Downtown moves from a Category 3 to a Category 2.

The final result

Travel in the COVID era is increasingand the more people who get vaccinated and the more itchy they get while traveling, the harder (and more expensive) it becomes to book your next trip. In particular, some of Hyatt’s most attractive hotels are getting a category upgrade – meaning you’ll have to spend more points to book the same room.
