It is an impressive achievement to achieve elite status with any hotel chain. You have most likely spent weeks in hotel rooms to reach this level. So it seems rightly fair that the rewards for that loyalty should be equally impressive. Knowing that you worked hard to earn the status, Hyatt also believes it’s just as important to share this status with a friend or family member – which is why they offer status holders the Hyatt Guest of Honor benefit.
With this benefit you can make a reservation with your points for a friend or family member and grant them the globalist benefits for their stay. It’s not without its quirks, however. Here is an overview of how to use the Hyatt Guest of Honor Globalist Benefit.
The Benefits of Hyatt Globalist Status
Globalist is the highest level of Hyatt Elite membership and therefore offers some attractive benefits.
30% bonus points for all eligible expenses in addition to the base points.
No resort fees. Eligible paid and free nights are waived.
Free upgrades upon check-in for standard suites, if available.
Check out at 4pm to give you more time to work or explore.
Free breakfast or club access at hotels with an Executive Club.
Paid parking when you book your stay with points.
Benefits for your guest of honor
If you make a reservation for someone else as part of the Guest of Honor benefit, you are essentially extending your status benefits to your guest for the duration of their stay.
These are the Hyatt Globalist hotel benefits you will receive:
Room upgrade upon arrival.
Late check-out upon request at participating locations.
Priority access to available rooms for early check-in.
If your Guest of Honor is a Hyatt Member and their number is on the reservation, they will be credited for the qualifying night for their stay, not you – even if your account is the same as the one from which the reservation was made. If your friend or family member is new to World of Hyatt, now is a good time to get them to register.
There is no limit to how often you can renew your benefits through the Guest of Honor, and there is no limit to the number of nights or rooms that you can book for the same or a different accommodation at the same time.
What else do you need to know?
Your guest’s stay cannot be booked online
Unfortunately, there is no digital platform where you can take advantage of the Guest of Honor. To make the booking for your guest and take advantage of the benefits, you must call Hyatt Customer Service or your own Hyatt Concierge.
You must book with points or a free night
No points + cash award bookings or normal cash bookings are eligible for the Guest of Honor benefit. The reservation must be fully booked according to points Or book a free night award and the points must be withdrawn from your Globalist account.
Because of this, you have two main options for funding your Guest of Honor booking:
Pay for the stay with your own points.
Let your guest first transfer the points from their World of Hyatt account to your account and then use these points to book the stay.
If you choose the second option, see Hyatt’s point transfer policy, which allows you to transfer funds to your account only every 30 days.
Guest of honor bookings are available at all Hyatt brands with the exception of the Hyatt Residence Club resorts as well as third party providers such as MGM Hotels and Small Luxury Hotels of the World partners.
Suite Upgrade Awards and Club Access Awards are non-transferable and therefore cannot be granted to your Guest of Honor.
How to Qualify for a Hyatt Globalist
Hyatt Globalist qualification typically requires 60 elite nights or 100,000 basis points per calendar year. The first and second tier levels, Discoverist and Explorist, require a lot less, but also offer fewer benefits.
A qualifying night is any night your head is in bed, whether it’s a paid stay or a points stay. Plus, you can earn two nights for every $ 5,000 you spend on your expenses World of Hyatt credit card by Chase.
Note: the qualifications have been adjusted for 2021
Due to the unprecedented nature of COVID-19 and its impact on travel, Hyatt has decided to cut all requirements in half for 2021. For example, instead of having to stay 60 eligible nights to achieve globalist status, you can now get there with just 30 nights. The same applies to the lower levels, Discoverist and Explorist, as they only need 5 and 15 nights respectively.
The final result
Hotel loyalty can come with great perks that will help you get the most out of your stay. With Hyatt’s Guest of Honor, you can share these with your friends and family so they too can have an unforgettable experience. If you’re already a Globalist member or looking to upgrade your status this calendar year, consider this benefit when considering how valuable a certain elite status is to you.
