3 Tips To Avoid Burnout As An Entrepreneur

While managing your own startup can be incredibly rewarding, it can’t be denied that it can also be extremely stressful. Unfortunately, when the stress gets too great, founders can easily be overwhelmed and burned out. They lose their passion for their work and their startup suffers as a result.

In fact, 8% of startup errors are directly attributed to the founder’s burnout. The good news is that extreme stress and burnout are preventable if you practice basic self-care:

1. Develop self-confidence

One of the biggest problems for startups founders is a lack of self-esteem. With such focus on what’s going on with your business, it can be all too easy to ignore your own needs. Worse, you might dismiss your physical, mental, or emotional state as unimportant to what you’re doing at work.

Neglecting your body’s cues is a surefire way to burnout. As you build self-esteem, you will become more aware of the decisions and actions you are making. This leads to more conscious choices that can help you cope better with stress.

There are more ways to relax than a day trip to the spa. Unfortunately, many founders forego stress-free activities because they feel that the only thing considered “self-care” is a one-hour massage or meditation session.

This means that self-care can be as simple as drinking enough water during the day or taking your prescribed medication on time. As part of your self-esteem increasing process, take a step back and consider what activities will help you feel calm and relaxed. However, by focusing on your personal needs and taking care of yourself, you can ensure that the daily stress of entrepreneurship does not become an overwhelming burden. It’s time to change your habits so that you can really enjoy what you’re doing and make your startup a lasting success.
