Nicola Spokes has been appointed as the new Managing Director of Island Records in the UK.
The appointment of Spokes was announced today (March 2nd) by Island President Louis Bloom.
The news follows the appointment of longtime island manager Natasha Mann to a new role as Director of Diversity & Inclusion for Universal Music UK, announced last month.
After four years in the Label & Artists Services department of Universal Music, Spokes is moving to Iceland as UK Label Head of Caroline International, where she has overseen release campaigns for a variety of artists.
Spokes reports to Louis Bloom and will work closely with Iceland SVP Steve Pitron and the rest of the label’s senior team who have a number of top 10 successes on debut albums with UK signed artists such as Sigrid, Dermot Kennedy, Easy Life, M Huncho and The Sports Team, plus UK chart performance by Ariana Grande, Drake and The Weeknd.
These artists include BRIT-nominated D-Block Europe, recent top 5 breakthrough Digga D, Fiction’s Tame Impala, and last year’s No. 1 single for Internet Money.
Prior to joining Universal, Spokes spent 15 years with the Ministry of Sound and eventually became Marketing Director after running award-winning marketing campaigns for Example and London Grammar.
“Nicola is widely recognized as one of the most intelligent and respected creative marketers in the industry. We are delighted to have her as Managing Director, especially at such an exciting time for the label.”
